Borderlands 3 Gets a Loot Overhaul
Each time Borderlands 3 news drops, the hype surrounding the game increases for me. Having been a fan of the series since the first game, Borderlands 3 has been among my most anticipated games and after the official reveal at this year’s PAX East, I can easily say that it’s going to be a good time.
In a Playstation Blog post last week, Art Director from Gearbox Software Scott Kester gave us more information about the upcoming game, including a new trailer. We were also given quick introductions to the new playable Vault Hunters and antagonists. The most interesting tidbit was the announcement of a new (optional) loot system. In previous games, all loot was shared between players. This often led to some sort of bargaining system between my friends and I as to who would get which drop from the bosses. According to Kester, each player will have their own “discrete loot stream.” This definitely alleviates some stress off my shoulders and will improve the experience for myself and others for sure. For those that prefer the old shareable loot system, there will be the option to turn it back on. The co-op has also been revamped; instead of just carrying your friends who might be a few levels behind, each player will be dealing “a meaningful amount of damage,” so it will allow everyone to feel as though they’re contributing to the game. Weapon manufacturers have also upgraded their weapons with new features such as alternate fire modes or tracker tags.
Overall, Borderlands 3 is shaping up to what seems to be like an unique experience within the Borderlands universe. The worldwide gameplay reveal event will be taking place on May 1, so we can anticipate getting a more in-depth look at the world and characters within it.
